Restorative Dentistry

Crowns

Broken or decayed teeth are often restored using fillings. However, when too much of a tooth’s structure is removed to support a filling, a crown or “cap” may be needed. The crown will help restore the strength, shape, and appearance of the tooth. At Burton Dental, each crown is custom made for our patients by a
skilled dental lab technician to ensure that they fit, feel, and function as much like a natural tooth as possible.

In the past, crowns were often made entirely of gold or by fusing a porcelain outer layer to a metal base. However, with new technology and improvement in dental materials, we now make the majority of our crowns from high-strength ceramic and porcelain to give both a stronger and more beautiful and cosmetic results.

Composite Fillings

Composite resin, or tooth-colored fillings, are used to fill decayed and broken teeth, as well as replacing failing amalgam (silver) fillings. The composite material will be shaded to match your natural tooth color and shaped to recreate the natural anatomy of your tooth.

Cosmetic bonding with tooth-colored composite resin can correct minor chips, cracks, spacing and misalignments in front teeth. Bonding can be an option if patients prefer not to have porcelain veneers. While bonding does not have the longevity of porcelain veneers, it is less expensive and is usually performed in on visit.
